Able and Talented.

·          Possible introduction of an A* grade into Key stage 3.

·          This would then help to automatically identify the more able pupils.

·          The measure of able and academically able will be different from department to department but it is hoped that at least 25% of the school can fit the A&T criteria but I suspect that we could have another 20% on a shadow register.

·          For example about 5 pupils in each class of 24/5 could be identified.

·          I hope to set up a register using a wide range of abilities, including:

1.       Subject grades.

2.       Key Stage 3 test results.

3.       Key Stage 3 teacher assessments.

4.       GCSE results.

5.       AS/UCAS points.

6.       A2 predicted grades.

In addition there will be other forms of teacher, parental, peer and outside agency referral. To identify the talented will be more subjective and may not be related to performance in lessons. Below are some suggestions.

A possible identification list will have a definition and number, for example;

1.       Artistic.

2.       Sporting.

3.       Musical.

4.       Logical/Mathematical.

5.       Drama.

6.       Designers.

7.       Creativity.

8.       Leadership.

9.       Organisational.

10.    Mechanical.

11.    Social.

12.    Interpersonal Skills.

An Excel document may well be the appropriate method. It may be that four or more referrals could then place a pupil on the register.
